    The Summer Solstice marks the end of spring and the start of summer – it is the time in which the sun reaches its highest position in the sky and is the day with the longest period of daylight. Traditionally an event that brings together groups of people in celebration across the world, this year our virtual celebration of the June Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere invites you to use this time of alignment to reflect and call on your own inner light.

    We invite you to celebrate the longest day of the year with us for a two day virtual event that will guide you on an uplifting journey to celebrate light and life. Enjoy our curated agenda of workshops with our Bamford expert practitioners hosted virtually from the Cotswolds to help you move with joy, eat the rainbow and heal with powerful meditations inspired by our connection to the universe. With the option to join our retreat for one or two days, our sessions will leave you with a nurtured heart and lighter mind.

    Our Summer Solstice Retreat schedule has been curated for all levels of ability and can be enjoyed by individuals as well as families and friends in the same household who wish to experience the retreat together.

    MOVE WITH JOY with fiteness expert James Golden

    Our body is designed to move and exercise is vital to stimulate the body to produce endorphins and enkephalins – the body’s natural feel-good hormones, which can help us maintain a positive outlook on life. This energising session will guide you through a holistic understanding of ‘fitness’ and how you can exercise at home to encourage joyful emotion in daily life, plus some tips for overcoming the barriers of time restriction.

    GOLDEN RAY CRYSTAL MEDITATION with Katie Jane Wright

    In this guided meditation, crystal healer Katie take you on a guided journey with sound and light language through your heart, to connect with the crystal or energy that you are working with. Whether you are practiced in crystal meditation or are new to this powerful form of healing, you will be shown how to open your palm chakras to enhance connection and how to attune into a crystals energy. If you don’t have crystals at home, you can choose to connect with a sacred, sentimental object or even a hand picked flower from nature.

    EAT THE RAINBOW: NUTRITION WORKSHOP with Rhaya Jordan

    We've been surrounded by rainbow imagery for the last few weeks, which is perfect because summer eating is all about colour – vivid colour in fruits and vegetables is key to their health-giving benefits. Eating the rainbow is not just a poetic idea, it is underpinned with good science. Join Rhaya to find out more about what true midsummer eating is and how it can translate into how you feel. A recipe will be sent to guests beforehand so you can create your own rainbow-inspired dish alongside Rhaya ready to enjoy for lunch

    OPTIONAL CHILDREN’S YOGA with Cristina Chandika Ma

    With children living in a fast-paced world, school pressures, current global challenges and other modern influences, yoga is the perfect counter balance to instil a sense of calm and security. If you have little ones who are running around at home, we welcome them to take part in this short, relaxed yoga session with fun postures that are named after animals and other creatures to capture their imagination.

    WINGS OF HAPPINESS: WILLPOWER AND SURRENDER with Akshai Narain

    Where does determination end and destiny begin? How can you strike a happy balance between the two? In this session, you will learn what the yogic scriptures say about this eternal dilemma and you will be introduced to powerful tools that can be applied in your daily life. Give your happiness wings and soak in the sunshine of life with this life-affirming workshop.

    CONVERSATIONS WITH THE SUN: THE STORY OF YOGA with Akshai Narain

    The sun witnessed the dawn of yoga. Today the sun sees the bright noon of yoga lighting up the world - we invoke this eternal energy with sun salutations and mantras in our practice. In this session, which will take place on the International Day of Yoga, we will dive into the mythical, modern, philosophical story of yoga along with exploring the practical side, too. By exploring the past, we empower ourselves to live better in the present moment.

    WALK TALL: ALIGNMENT WORKSHOP with Vikrant Koli

    Over the past few months we are likely to have spent more time sitting down than moving and this can take a toll on our physical posture. Join Vikrant to be guided through a full body postural analysis that you can conduct at home. Learn how we can correct any distortions or tensions in the body with simple stretches and exercises to ease your aches and pains and move your body comfortably and easily. The session will include a low impact practical session that includes deep but easy stretches and exercises.

    FERMENTATION WORKSHOP with Rhaya Jordan

    Fermenting is not just sauerkraut for autumn casseroles, the bounty of midsummer can also be perfectly pickled and fermented for you to enjoy this season and beyond. The high water content of seasonal produce will change how you ferment and in this workshop, we will make a beautiful, probiotic shrub - perfect to sip with iced drinks in the summer heat. We will also learn how to brine and make homemade dill-pickles for summer picnics sandwiches and BBQ burgers. A recipe will be sent to retreat guests beforehand so you can enjoy your creation at lunch.

    NEW MOON SOLAR ECLIPSE MEDITATION AND SOUND HEALING with Cristina Chandika Ma

    The New Moon marks the beginning of a new cycle and a coinciding Solar Eclipse is even more powerful, creating a complete re-set for a new beginning. Join Cristina to create a safe and sacred space on this very auspicious day with a transformational Heart & Soul Meditation to find a place of truth, inspiration and creativity.

    We will end the session by exploring the Ganesha mantra – a mantra for new beginnings, the remover of obstacles and bestower of success - followed by a deep relaxation to the sacred sounds of the Alchemy Crystal Singing Bowls and Gongs.

    The equipment you will need

    We recommend finding a clear, calming space to spend the day with us. We have provided some suggestions for what items you can bring along with you to create your own comfortable environment to elevate the retreat experience: 1) Comfortable clothing you can move in; 2) Laptop with wifi and Zoom downloaded; 3) Yoga mat or soft surface; 4) Water bottle to stay hydrated; 5) Headphones for sound healing; 6) Notepad and pen to take notes; 7) Candle to scent the space; 8) Pillow or bolster to sit on
