Upcycled Picnic Throw
£ 285

The Upcycled Picnic Throw was designed and created in collaboration with our artisanal suppliers in India to provide a source of ongoing support and income to their community of makers during the pandemic.

The soft throw is an ideal companion for days spent lounging in the garden or countryside, doubling up as a throw to sit on or to wrap around you as the evening cools. Made using a combination of upcycled cotton fabrics from previous Bamford collections, each piece is slightly different from the next, giving them their own unique personality.

About the collection

The events of the past year have reinforced the need for us all to unite as a global community, to extend kindness to others and to provide an ongoing source of support to those who are most in need. Which is why we were determined to collaborate even more closely with our suppliers in India, who have felt the detrimental impacts of the pandemic as production orders were cancelled by brands and manufacturers as the world ground to a halt in 2020.

The result of our collaboration is a delightful collection of upcycled pouches, bags and throws made by hand using materials that were left over from previous Bamford collections. Since this project was unplanned we wanted to embrace the spontaneity of it by patchworking different combinations of fabrics together. Each piece in the capsule collection is therefore slightly different from the next, with no two looking exactly the same giving them their own unique personality.

Community-made

Artisanry constitutes the second largest source of income in India after agriculture. We are reliant on these close-knit artisan communities of skilled makers to bring our collections to life, who in turn are dependent on their craft to sustain their livelihoods and to support their families. It has been more vital than ever to sustain their work during these uncertain times; we are delighted that we have been able to fulfil this with the passionate support of our founder, Carole Bamford.

The upcycled collection is underpinned by our commitments to sustaining the heritage of craft in the communities with which we work as well as minimising waste through utilising fabrics from our archive – giving the materials and makers a second chance to thrive.
