Our first regenerative silk

PROTECTING THE EARTH'S SOILS

How can the garments we create act as a force for change, caring for and enhancing the life of both people and planet?

For this Autumn-Winter collection, we have transformed our silk supply chain to one that is regenerative, one which gives back to our planet and its soils. The silk farm that we source the fibre for our Cleo Culottes and Bruno Top uses responsible practices such as rotational cropping and intercropping, which promotes soil biodiversity and helps to mitigate the acceleration of global warming by locking carbon into the soil.

WHAT MAKES OUR SILK REGENERATIVE?

Mulberry trees, the crop silk worms thrive on, are grown in a vibrant, self-sustaining ecosystem that encourages nutrient balance within the soil and protects itself from agricultural illness and sensitivity to sudden weather changes. Instead of chemicals or pesticides, the farm we have sourced from for these styles uses natural pest controls like organic limestone ash, and solar power bug zappers.

Free range animals, such as chickens and ducks, offer further pest control and also, importantly, fertilise the land. By working with nature, not fighting against it, they have embraced terrace farming which allows for natural irrigation and maintains a responsible consumption of water.

Protecting the Earth's soils, one fibre at a time.

Socially responsible.

By championing these indigenous farming methods, they are also protecting the people and communities whose livelihoods rely on it. The farmers receive a dignified wage all year round on the various crops they produce alongside the silk, and by keeping the entire silk production chain in China they ‘cut out the middle man’ and ensure all workers can benefit from the goods they produce.
Lastly, our Bruno Top and Cleo Culotte are crafted in Italy by specialist silk makers, meaning the styles have been handled by the most skilled and knowledgeable crafters from farm to garment.
