THE HEALING HARVEST FULL MOON
This year, September's full supermoon promises to be something special.
BAMFORD & THE HARVEST MOON
The Harvest Moon is the name given to the full moon that occurs closest to the autumn equinox. The 9th full moon of 2024 rises on the 18th of September - just before the autumn equinox - marking the seasonal shift from Summer to Autumn.
Unlike most full moons, the Harvest Moon rises just after sunset for several consecutive nights, providing extended natural light into the evening. Historically, this extra light was crucial for farmers, enabling them to work longer during the harvest season, gathering crops ahead of winter. Culturally, the Harvest Moon symbolises prosperity, marking the close of the season and a successful harvest period. (alanmac.com)
Influenced by the cycles found in nature, our Autumn-Winter collection draws inspiration from the ancient ritual of gathering, celebrating nature’s abundance and the fruits of the season’s harvest. Just as the Harvest Moon traditionally provided farmers with extended light to gather crops, this collection honours that same spirit of productivity, a connection to nature and the end of the summer period. Featuring earthy tones and natural materials, the pieces reflect the seasonal shift from Summer to Autumn.
CATCHING A GLIMPSE OF THE SUPERMOON
The Harvest Supermoon on 18th of September will rise at 19:28 BST, appearing bigger and brighter than a typical full moon.
Supermoons typically appear about three to four times each year, depending on the moon’s orbit and its alignment with the Earth. They occur when the full moon coincides with the moon’s closest approach to Earth (called perigee), making it appear closer, larger and brighter than usual. In 2024, there are four Supermoons lined up; NASA explains that this phenomenon results from the moon's elliptical orbit, causing these brighter and bigger moons to appear several times in close succession. Expect two more Supermoons in October and November! (science.nasa.gov)
SET YOUR INTENTIONS AND SUPERCHARGE YOUR CRYSTALS
The Harvest Moon is often associated with themes of abundance, gratitude, and the conclusion of a cycle. This double dose of full and super celestial energy can help align emotions and thoughts, fostering greater self-awareness and boosting productivity.
To harness the energy of the Harvest Supermoon, use crystals that resonate with growth and clarity, such as Clear Quartz to amplify intentions and Tiger's Eye to support emotional strength. Before the Harvest Moon rises, ensure you cleanse your crystals. You can do this by running them under cool water, smudging them with sage or placing them in moonlight overnight; avoid putting certain crystals in water, like selenite. As the moon peaks, place the crystals in the moonlight to absorb its energy, and hold them while visualising your goals. Speak your intentions aloud or write them down in a journal to help manifest your goals and wishes.
