Organic cotton: a relationship of reciprocity

Organic cotton: a relationship of reciprocity

We have increased our usage of traceable cotton by +12% from 2020, and are commited to growing this number with each collection.

For 2021, 79% of cotton fibres used in our collections are fully traceable from source and 64% is GOTS Certified Organic Cotton. We have increased our usage of traceable cotton by +12% from 2020, and are commited to growing this number with each collection. While we take great pride in this figure, of course there is still work to be done: becoming truly sustainable is a journey, and we are constantly striving to build on these foundations.

WHAT IS THE GLOBAL ORGANIC TEXTILE STANDARD?

The sourcing of our cotton is something we research and consider extremely carefully. The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the most respected and trusted certification for the farming and manufacturing process of garments in the clothing industry. We work with them to certify the sourcing and manufacturing of our cotton garments, and are committed to increasing the percentage of GOTS certified fibres in our collection each season.

BENEFITS OF GROWING COTTON ORGANICALLY INCLUDE:

  • Avoiding the use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides, which are harmful to the soil and the biodiversity that relies on the soil ecosystem
  • Providing a home for bee populations - precious pollinators who find a safe home in wildflower hedgerows that are typically grown alongside the cotton crop
  • A 45% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to growing conventional cotton
  • An 87% reduction in water consumption compared to growing conventional cotton
